Synopsis
By now those of us who compound on a daily basis are aware that the USP has postponed the implementation of the compounding General Chapters 795 and 797 as a result of legal challenge filed1. This will delay but not derail the updates of these chapters. As of this printing the USP has scheduled a formal hearing late in January of 2020 and will most likely resolve these questions. What this means for the average compounding pharmacist is that while we wait for the process to run its course, focus should be on first complying with the current chapter, which is the current US standard, and then being aware of the current state of the revision process as it moves along. With the hearing scheduled for later this month, the most likely activation of the compounding chapters in question (USP 795, 797 & 825) will be mid-August 2020.
