Personal Protective Equipment for Hazardous Drug Compounding Are you sure you have recalibrated since the pandemic? Your choices really matter!

Synopsis

We have covered this topic in other installments of this series, but since this topic is so critical, we thought it deserved another look. As a result of the supply shortages driven by the Covid-19 pandemic, all healthcare providers were forced to rethink and at times reuse supplies in their operations. Although acceptable in that time of crisis, this strategy is no longer regulatorily or practically acceptable. Since the pandemic brought a flurry of changes in a very short time, we may not be clear which changes were made, and which of those must be returned to their prepandemic state. Both for regulatory compliance, and even more importantly for employee protection, it is essential that this be done correctly. This month’s installment may seem on its face basic. However, beyond aligning your supplies and processes with both Federal & State regulations and demonstrated best practices, it is central to protecting your staff from what can only be described as avoidable injuries.
